I work as a consecutive interpreter. What does that mean ?
A translator translates in writing. An interpreter translates orally. A consecutive or conversational interpreter does not translate simultaneously like a conference interpreter, but is present with two parties and takes turns translating what is said. I interpret from Arabic to Dutch and vice versa.
I worked as an interpreter at the CGRS (General Commission for Refugees and Stateless Persons)in Brussels and I am also a sworn interpreter for the Belgian judicial services: Police inspectors, investigating magistrates, judges, lawyers. I interpret physically and remotely.

What is a court interpreter ?
A court interpreter is a translator who swore the oath before the president of the Court of Appeal of his judicial district.
The court interpreter/translator intervenes at all stages of court proceedings (in court, pre-trial, as well as police interrogations).
It involves interpreting in the field, during the interrogation, at the hearing or in contacts with the lawyer.
A court interpreter/translator is bound by a code of ethics. The interpreter is discreet, neutral, transparent and always adopts a professional attitude.
